American Airlines Targetted Offer

I received an email this morning from American Airlines with a targeted offer, which I can only describe as win win!

American Airlines is offering 5000 bonus points for making a first booking with RocketMiles. All one needs to do is make a booking of $200 or more and it needs to be a first time booking. There is also an additional 1000-10000 bonus miles, once the stay is completed. No word on how they decide how much to award, though. American Airlines has a decent award chart and 6000-15000 additional miles for one hotel stay is not a bad deal by any means.

Now, the terms and conditions clearly mention this offer is targeted, but the offer requires the use of a code given in the email, so I am wondering if anyone can use this code and make a booking and will still get the bonus. I have till 31st December to find out.
